Reason
What is it that happens within you? Fundamentally, you expected something to happen and it did not happen. You expected somebody or something to be your way or the world or the destiny to be your way, and it did not happen. In other words, you are simply against what is happening; that’s all. Maybe you are against a person, maybe you are against a whole situation, maybe you are against life itself. Accordingly, depression will run deeper and deeper. You need to understand that Depression is self-Created. You will get depressed if you are capable of causing depression to yourself. If you are causing depression to yourself you are able to generate a substantial amount of intense emotions and thoughts but in the wrong direction. If you don't have very strong emotions, very intense thoughts about something, you can not get depressed. It is just that you are generating thoughts and emotions which work against you, not for you. so you are strong enough to cause depression to yourself. A very small number of people who are pathologically ill rest are all self-created. It just comes from within because of genetics and some other factors.
"One can make any emotion into a creative force in their life. If your sadness reminds you that you are incomplete, it is good; make use of your sadness to grow. But, when you get sad, if you are going to get irritable and angry, and that whole world is wrong, you are a fool. Do you want to make this sadness into anger or into love and compassion? It is very easy when you are sad, to become compassionate. It is already a dissolving kind of energy; you can use it for further dissolution which leads you to your ultimate well-being.
What You Can Do
Talk to someone in your family or one of your friends. You can talk to your doctor, human resources at work, or a therapist. If you do not want to speak to someone face-to-face, you can talk to someone online. There are licensed professionals online that you can talk to without an appointment or you can speak to them on the phone or text. The fact is, the sooner you start getting treatment, the sooner you will start feeling better. Do not ignore it and just hope it goes away.
Try to eliminate negative thoughts.
At the end of the day, write down (in a journal if you have one, or any notebook really) what good things happened. Who made you smile, who made you laugh and who you helped to smile and laugh. Focus on the good things here.
Talk with and hang out with friends. Make sure to be social, interacting positively with other people is important.
Do what you enjoy, whether it be sports, art- anything you like to do.
Make sure to get outdoors. Even if it is cold, getting at least some fresh air is good.
Be active, go for a walk, or be up and moving.
Listen to upbeat music, even if you are not in the mood for it.
If you feel tired but know there is no real reason for it, get up and be moving. If you've been at home all day or most of the day, go somewhere else - even if it's just to the grocery store.
Keep in mind that depression is not just feeling sad. While the person may feel sad at times, it is more a lack of feeling: emptiness, numbness. It is looking at something you know you enjoy, and feeling nothing toward it.
Eating a healthy diet, physical activities, counseling, and meditation can make a significant difference.
Participate in social activities to avoid becoming isolated.
Try to learn something new every day. It will make you happy.
The most that anyone can help in depression is your support system i.e. your family and friends. These are the people who understand your stress and changing mood the most. So always talk to this group of yours and share your problems with them. Your support system will give you mental strength and make you stronger. This support system which always motivates and encourages you plays an important role in avoiding and removing any stress or depression.

Diagnosis and treatment
There are effective treatments for moderate and severe depression. An antidepressant drug used to treat Depression. Health-care providers may offer psychological treatments such as behavioral activation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), or antidepressant medication such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). Health-care providers should keep in mind the possible adverse effects associated with antidepressant medication, the ability to deliver either intervention (in terms of expertise, and/or treatment availability), and individual preferences. Different psychological treatment formats for consideration include individual and/or group face-to-face psychological treatments delivered by professionals and supervised lay therapists.
Psychosocial treatments are also effective for mild depression and Dysthymia. Antidepressants can be an effective form of treatment for moderate-severe depression but are not the first line of treatment for cases of mild depression. They should not be used for treating depression in children and are not the first line of treatment in adolescents, among whom they should be used with extra caution.
